Spilled something on your laptop? Do this right away

Coffee, water, soda: it happens. What you do in the first few minutes matters most.

Turn it off now. Hold the power button until it shuts down. Don't wait to save your work.
Unplug it and take out anything plugged in.
Turn it upside down in a tent shape so liquid can drain out.
Don't use a hair dryer, and don't put it in rice. Heat can push liquid further in, and rice doesn't reach where the damage happens.
Don't turn it back on to "check". Power running through wet parts is what causes the real damage.
Bring it in as soon as you can. We open it, clean the inside, and check what was hit. The sooner, the better the odds.

Sugary drinks are the hardest, because they leave sticky residue that keeps causing problems after the liquid dries.
