What laptop do I have?

The exact model tells you which charger, battery or screen fits. Here's how to find it in under a minute.

Windows laptop

  1. Open Settings, then System, then About.
  2. Look under Device specifications for the device name and model.
  3. Or type System Information in the Start menu search and open it. Look for System Model.
  4. Still not sure? Flip the laptop over. The model and serial number are usually on a sticker on the bottom.

MacBook

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top left corner.
  2. Choose About This Mac.
  3. You'll see the model name and year, like MacBook Air (M2, 2022), plus the serial number.
  4. Mac won't turn on? The model number (it starts with an A) is printed on the bottom case.

Chromebook

  1. Open Settings, then About ChromeOS.
  2. Choose Additional details to see the model and serial number.
  3. Or check the sticker on the bottom of the Chromebook.
  4. School Chromebooks often have an asset tag sticker too. That's the school's number, not the model.

Laptop won't turn on

  1. Check the sticker on the bottom, or under the battery on older laptops.
  2. Look on the charger label. It often names the brand and power rating.
  3. Check the original box or receipt if you still have it.
  4. Or just bring it in. We can tell you the model for free.

Why does the exact model matter?

Chargers, batteries, screens and keyboards are made for specific models. Two laptops with the same name can use different parts.

Is it safe to share my serial number?

Yes, with a repair shop you trust. It's used to look up the right parts. Don't post it publicly online.

Where do I find the model on a laptop that won't turn on?

On the sticker on the bottom, under the battery on older models, or on the original box.
